Flight Capt. Mike Mukula, the NRM Vice Chairperson for Eastern Uganda has reechoed his loyalty to the ruling party saying he will continue to campaign for President Yoweri Museveni in the 2021 general polls and even beyond.

Mukula said that he will strongly mobilize and campaign for Museveni for his visionary and competent leadership.

“Museveni is the only leader who has guaranteed peace and stability in the post-independence era and I will definitely support him unconditionally,” Mukula said during an interview with this reporter.

The flamboyant former Soroti Municipality MP and Health minister added that whereas he will never return into elective politics, he will continue to support President Museveni for his revolutionary leadership.

“I will never go back into competitive elections again, but I will support President Museveni all the way to help Uganda transform into a middle income status,” he said.

This comes after Lt Gen (Rtd) Henry Tumukunde declared his presidential bid to dislodge Museveni. Tumukunde in his interview with local media said that he would support any other person or even rebel group to oust a constitutionally elected leader like Museveni.

However, Mukula in his narrative opines that whereas it is Tumukunde’s constitutional right to stand for presidency, he would not campaign or vote for him for as long as Museveni is still in the race. Mukula is confident that Museveni will win the 2021 elections with a landslide.

On the proposal of adopting regional rotational leadership strategy like it is done in some African countries like Nigeria, Mukula says that the idea is good, but requires sufficient consultations and benchmarking to avoid any backfire in the social, economic and political transformation.
