Speaker Among meets Human Rights Commission

The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon Anita Among has Monday met the Chairperson of the Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC), Ms Mariam Wangadya.

Also in attendance was the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, Hon Mathias Mpuuga, Commissioner of Parliament Hon Solomon Silwany and Kimanya-Kabonera MP, Hon Abed Bwanika.

The in-camera meeting was preparatory to another one scheduled later this month, which is intended to address the allegations of missing persons.

Next month's meeting will involve the entire membership of the Uganda Human Rights Commission, the Police leadership and the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

This is a continuation of efforts to address concerns about missing persons and other human rights related issues.

Recently, the Opposition in Parliament boycotted plenary sittings untill the matter is squarely addressed by government.
