Russia Donates $100 Million to UPDF
The Russian Government has donated $100 million to the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) following instructions from President Vladimir Putin.
This military donation comes after discussions between President Yoweri Museveni and President Putin in St. Petersburg last year.
The Kampala Post understands that Russia has selected Uganda as a key strategic ally in Africa.
During the last Russia-Africa Summit, President Museveni held private meetings with his Russian counterpart. Notably, the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, was part of President Museveni's delegation.
Recently, Gen. Kainerugaba, who is also the Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations, shared a photo and message on his X account noting that he had visited Moscow: "Earlier this year, the Commander-in-Chief allowed me to lead a military delegation to Moscow. While we were there, we couldn't miss visiting the mausoleum of Lenin. Lenin is the grandfather of all revolutionaries on earth. For us, African patriots, it's like visiting Jerusalem."
In Kampala, the CDF has held meetings with several Russian military officials, with the latest meeting taking place at the SFC headquarters in Entebbe, where he met a delegation sent by the Russian Defence Minister.
