Parliament has summoned the minister of Finance Matia Kasaija to explain why up to now political parties are yet to receive their funding yet it was appropriated by parliament.

This is after the Bugiri Municipality Member of Parliament Asuman Basalirwa presented a matter of national importance in which he noted that all political parties under IPOD had approached him as their president and complained about the absence of the funds.

Basalirwa says that political parties for the last two years have not received any funding from government even though parliament appropriated this money saying that they need this money to support them in the upcoming general election. Parliament every year appropriates Shs10 billion for all political parties who have representation in parliament and this money is shared depending on numerical strength.

The speaker asked the minister of finance Matia Kasaija to provide an explanation to parliament immediately they come back from recess.

"We appropriate the money and we would like to know why the money has not been released. The Minister of Finance should update this House after the Independence week,” Kadaga said.
