KCCA Receives 250 Garbage Skips to Boost City Cleanliness
Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has received a donation of 250 garbage skips from RIC Energy, a strategic partner for renewable energy initiatives in Africa.
The donation, aimed at improving waste management in the city, was formally received by the Minister of Kampala Capital City Authority and Metropolitan Affairs, Hajat Minsa Kabanda.
Kabanda commended RIC Energy for its comprehensive approach, which includes turning waste into energy and fertilizer, contributing to both environmental preservation and economic viability.
She noted that the garbage skips will support the implementation of KCCA effort to implement the presidential directive of one bin for every 200 meters.
In addition to the dustbin donation, RIC Energy has plans to establish a waste-to-energy plant in Kampala, furthering its commitment to promoting environmental sustainability and cleaner urban spaces.
Expressing gratitude for the donation, Dorothy Kisaka, the KCCA Executive Director emphasized the importance of responsible waste disposal and urged city dwellers to utilize the new dustbins effectively.
“KCCA intends to install garbage skips in all heavy traffic areas in the city to ease garbage disposal. We shall first focus on the central business district and then increase the scope,” Kisaka said.
She appealed to the city residents to utilize the skips for garbage disposal and avoid littering in the drainages.
Chuvh Rajesh, CEO of RIC Energy Africa, reaffirmed the company's dedication to supporting KCCA's initiatives and emphasized their seven-year presence in Uganda, highlighting their ongoing commitment to sustainability.
The partnership between KCCA and RIC Energy also extends to waste management strategies, with ongoing efforts to develop innovative solutions such as the decommissioning of the Kitezi landfill.
The donation of garbage dustbins and the collaborative efforts between KCCA and RIC Energy mark a significant step towards a cleaner, more accessible future for Kampala residents.
The call for citizen engagement in responsible waste disposal is echoed, emphasizing the collective responsibility to maintain a sustainable city environment.
