Joe Biden Quits U.S Presidential Race, Endorses Kamala
In a shocking turn of events, U.S President Joe Biden announced today that he is withdrawing from the presidential race and endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee.
"My fellow Democrats," Biden began, "I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term."
In a post on his social media platforms, Biden continued, "My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it's been the best decision I've made."
Biden praised Harris's leadership, intelligence, and dedication to the Democratic Party. "Today, I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year," he declared.
This comes after a below par debate performance against Donald Trump.
Following the debate, members of Biden's party piled pressure on him to quit. They argued he was unable to beat Trump as the sitting president often appeared to lose his trail of thoughts during the debate. He has also appeared confused at several events with many saying he was unable to lead his party to victory in the November polls.
Although he had initially said he would go nowhere, the US President noted that he would only quit on account of a medical condition.
It is important to note that Biden is currently isolating after testing positive for Covid.
