The UPDF Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen. David Muhoozi on Wednesday bid farewell to the outgoing Managing Director of Total Uganda Obi Imemba, who is returning to his home country, Nigeria.

Gen. Muhoozi also praised Imemba for "his selfless and committed service" during his tenure at the gas company.

The CDF, who described the executive as "a solid guy", was among the few invited guests at the residence of the managing director in Kololo, a leafy Kampala suburb.

"You are a giant that has made your presence felt in such a short time. UPDF has benefited from your close partnership. We welcome your colleague Daniel coming to take over from where you have stopped," he said.

A spokesperson for Total Uganda declined to reveal the other name of Daniel, the new managing director, as he has not yet been officially "unveiled".

At the function, Gen. Muhoozi also hailed Imemba for overseeing the expansion of Total services and cementing the relationship with the Ministry of Defence and UPDF.

Total Uganda is the main supplier of petroleum products to UPDF in the country.

The CDF promised to continue strengthening the UPDF-Total relationship. He also thanked Andrew Rugasira, a member of the Total Uganda advisory board for introducing him to Obi Imemba.

Imemba said that what makes a business is the people, the relationships made and the interaction a brand and its managers build and not the money one invests.

"I did exactly that and it worked," he said. "I was a stranger in management but together as a team, we have contributed something significant. Uganda is unique and there is always something unique to discover. I have connected with people and I have known every corner which is not the case even of my home country Nigeria."

Total Uganda currently operates 200 service stations across the country.

The function was attended by the outgoing High Commissioner of Nigeria to Uganda Dr. Etubom Nya Eyoma Asuquo; Pierre Jessua, the general manager of Total Exploration and Production in Uganda; Ellis Edu, the Chairman of Nigerian Community in Uganda; Stephen Kaboyo, the chairman advisory round Table Total Uganda; and Deputy UPDF Spokesperson Lt. Col. Deo Akiiki among other diginitaries.
