Gen. Kainerugaba Attends Kagame's Swearing-In Ceremony
The Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, was among the high-profile guests who graced the swearing-in ceremony of Rwandan President Paul Kagame on Sunday.
The event, held at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali, marked Kagame's fourth term as the president of the East African nation.
The highly attended event was enlivened by a number of cheerful activities, including musical performances and military parades.
Gen. Kainerugaba arrived in Kigali on Saturday evening and was welcomed by his Rwandan counterpart, Gen. Mubarakh Muganga, alongside other senior officials from the Rwandan Defence Forces (RDF).
He was accompanied to Rwanda by Major General James Birungi, head of Defence Intelligence and Security, and Brigadier General Richard Karemire, who leads the UPDF’s department of formal education, sports, and culture. Also part of his delegation is Alexander Akandwanaho and businessman Andrew Mwenda.
During his stay in Kigali, General Kainerugaba, who is also the Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations, is expected to engage in discussions with President Kagame and General Muganga.
General Kainerugaba has been credited for his pivotal role in easing tensions between Uganda and Rwanda, which had previously led to significant disruptions in trade and movement across the border.
