First Lady Janet Museveni Flags off She Cranes for 2019 Netball World Cup

The First Lady of Uganda and Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Museveni on Thursday flagged off the Uganda She Cranes team for the 2019 Netball World Cup, to be held in Liverpool, England. The event will run from 12th-21st July.

The team of 13 players and eight officials was flagged off after a luncheon at State House, Nakasero. Mrs. Museveni encouraged the team, expressing optimism that they will perform better, since they have participated in the global sports event before.“I have faith in you and I am very sure you will put up a good performance at the World Cup. You have been there before and I have trust that the Lord will empower you to defeat your opponents,” she said, adding that both the football and netball national teams are good ambassadors and should continue raising Uganda’s flag high.

“I am proud of both Uganda Cranes and She Cranes for putting Uganda on a global map,” she added. The Uganda Cranes will on Friday tussle it out with Senegal in the AFCON2019 Round of 16 first encounter.The She Cranes departs for the week-long event on Friday (today) at 4pm.They will launch the World Cup on July 12 against hosts, The England Roses at the M&S Arena.Samoa and Scotland are Uganda’s other Pool D rivals. The 2019 Netball World Cup will be the 15th staging of the premier competition in international netball, contested every after four years.
