The Voice Africa: Search for Talented Vocalists Underway
The Voice Africa, an Airtel-sponsored reality singing competition aimed at rewarding talented vocalists, is warming up Ugandans for the main events with activations that have so far been held in two locations.
On December 21, Airtel Uganda held a bash at Gulu University and the second was held on Friday, December 23 at Legends Rugby Grounds.
These events are in advance of the revelation of the seven successful vocalists from the auditions. The successful contestants will be revealed next year.
Airtel Uganda announced a cash prize of $5,000 (about Shs18.9 million) to the top seven winners from Uganda who will then be taken through a boot camp for vocal and performance training.
The seven winners at country well will then join competitors from other countries for a final cash prize of $100,000 (about Shs378 million).
Participation was open to anyone above 18 and all they had to do was record a one-minute MP4 video while singing, without an instrument. Only a voice was needed.
Submissions closed on November 6.
Auditions are being held in Gulu and Kampala.
The competition, which had taken a break due to the Covid-19 pandemic, is being held in 14 countries across Africa, namely: Uganda, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Seychelles, Tanzania, and Zambia.
Others are Ghana, Congo Brazaville, Zambia, Kenya, Madagascar, and Malawi.
The seven winners at the country level will join competitors from other countries for a final cash prize of $100,000 (about Shs378 million).
