UPDF Urged on Economic Transformation of Uganda

The Special Forces Command (SFC) Commander Maj Gen James Birungi has called on all soldiers to concentrate on the economic transformation of the country now that peace is prevailing in all corners of Uganda.

“I want to remind you that now there is peace in the country, it is now time to concentrate on the economic transformation of the country and your welfare,” he said.

Maj Gen Birungi was on Wednesday addressing Uganda People’s Defence Air Forces (UPDAF) and the Special Forces Command soldiers, as they held the joint 39th Tarehe Sita celebrations at the Uganda People’s Defence Air Forces Headquarters in Entebbe. Gen Birungi represented the Commander Air Force, Lt Gen Charles Lutaya.

The SFC Commander applauded the Commander in Chief of the UPDF, president Gen YK Museveni and other patriotic gallant soldiers living and dead for having initiated a good heroic vision and struggle that brought the current government in power.

He said that the patriotism and discipline of the NRA/ UPDF and NRM was and still is the yard stick to the winning of all battles UPDF has fought. Gen Birungi congratulated all the UPDF fraternity upon this anniversary and also applauded the UPDF strategic leadership and guidence led by Chief of Defence Forces.

The commander SFC further applauded the good working relationships and support by the civilians whom he called the Masters to UPDF noting that without the civilians UPDF has no base. Gen Birungi also hailed the UPDF spouses for the great job they do in supporting their husbands and keeping homes during their absence. He pledged that the army (husbands) shall also commit to provid for them everything possible and within their means.

The occasion was held under the theme ‘Consolidating the UPDF Strategic Partnership with the People to Guard the Gains of the Liberation.’
