Speaker Rebecca Kadaga’s convoy was on Monday involved in a motor accident where 3 people sustained injuries. The accident happened in Fort Portal City where Kadaga and her convoy had travelled from Voice of Tooro FM station to the Boma Ground.

According to Sam Obbo, the Principal Press secretary to the Speaker, a boda boda rider, carrying two female passengers, lost control and hit the side mirror of a police escort car.

“The rider, identified as Karim Mitalla, and the two passengers – Shamina Mbabazi and Amiina Kakwezi- sustained injuries,” Obbo said. He added that after the mishap, the convoy stopped where the injured persons were offered first aid and driven to Buhinga Referral Hospital for further management. All the medical and upkeep costs are being met by the Office of the Speaker.

“The rider told police that his attention was momentarily diverted from the road to a police chopper, which was parked at the Boma grounds. It’s aboard the said helicopter that the Speaker had flown to Fort Portal. When he reportedly refocused on the road, the convoy, which was coming from the opposite direction, was near him; hence the panic. The Speaker’s Office has met the costs of repairing the bike and wishes the accident victims speedy,” he said.
