SFC Engineers Finally Fix Drainage System on KAR Road in Kampala

Engineers from the Special Forces Command (SFC) have completed works to fix the drainage system on KAR Road in Kampala.

The works on the project began in December 2023 and the engineers were deployed to plug the infamous 'Lake Erias Lukwago' pothole and improve the drainage system in the area. The pothole was aptly nicknamed after the city's own Lord Mayor by social media users.

The SFC construction regiment had promised to deliver quality work in record time after they took on the contract for maintenance works on some Kampala roads. "We are promising to a cost-effective, efficient and quality work in record time,” Lt Eng. Kikomeko Kigongo, the assistant project manager, told the media.

President Yoweri Museveni in May 2023 directed KCCA and all other responsible government agencies to work with SFC Construction Regiment headed by Lt Col Eng. Robert Chabo to repair potholes and also carry out road maintenance in Kampala City.

The directive came following an uproar by members of the public over the sorry state of roads in Uganda’s capital, with many blaming KCCA for turning a blind eye to the potholes.

To show their discontent, Ugandans took to social media platforms to post photos and videos of roads with potholes and post them online as a way of reminding KCCA about the deplorable state of the city’s infrastructure.

SFC's scope of work includes doing sectional repairs as well as pothole repairs in selected areas of Kampala. The roads to be covered include Rashid Khamis Road, Nsalo Road, Old Kampala Ring, Fort Road, School Road, Lower Kololo Terrace, K.A.R Road, Snay Bin Amir Rise, Kiyembe Lane, William street, Burton Street, Wilson street, Dustur street, Sikh street, Berkeley road, Ginnery road and Boundary road among others in the Central Business District.

Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations, in November, toured the city to inspect the ongoing road repairs carried out by the Special Forces Command (SFC). He was joined by KCCA Executive Director Dorothy Kisaka and a team of KCCA and SFC engineers.

Gen Kainerugaba and the team toured several sites, starting in downtown, Kiyembe Lane which connects Nakasero market to the old taxi park, Rashid Khamis Road, and concluded the tour in Kololo.
