President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni met with over 100 musicians at State House, Entebbe, where he emphasized the importance of using music as a tool for national development. The meeting, organized by the Commissioner of Patriotism in the Office of the President, Ms. Hellen Seku, included prominent Ugandan artists such as Bebe Cool and Jose Chameleone, led by Uganda Musicians Federation President, Eddy Kenzo. The meeting was held on August 21, 2024.

President Museveni reiterated the government's commitment to supporting the music industry, encouraging the musicians to use their platform to spread the National Resistance Movement's (NRM) message of wealth creation. He stated, "Your songs can help amplify our efforts to fight poverty and improve the lives of Ugandans."

Museveni urged the musicians to be patriotic and compose songs that contribute positively to the country’s development. He also directed Ms. Seku to organize patriotism and ideological training for the musicians by the end of the year.

The President cautioned the artists against promoting politics of identity based on tribe and religion, warning that such divisive politics could hinder national progress. "Advocate for politics of interest, which is crucial for the prosperity of our nation," he said.

During the meeting, Eddy Kenzo raised concerns about the lack of protection for their intellectual property and requested the President to expedite the passing of the copyright law. The musicians expressed gratitude to President Museveni for hosting them and pledged to support government programs aimed at socio-economic transformation.

The meeting was also attended by the Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development, Hon. Betty Amongi, and the Minister of State for Gender and Culture, Hon. Peace Mutuuzo, among other officials.
