President Yoweri Museveni has lauded Speaker Anita Among for being an active, developmental and innovative leader.

Museveni said this while officially opening Bukedea Teaching Hospital that was constructed by Speaker Among, with the intent to provide quality and affordable healthcare for the people of Teso and neighboring districts.

"I congratulate my daughter [Among] for being such an active young person in helping her people. She built the school, then the hospital and the school of nursing and paramedical studies," Museveni said.

Museveni said that Among is not only innovative but a good listener. He commended her for investing in what he termed as an imaginative project.

"She is a good planner; she constructed a school [Bukedea Comprehensive School] to provide the very much sought after quality education. Now the money she gets from the school is what she used to build the hospital which also provides healthcare and another school which trains nurses," he said.

He added," She has really changed this place. She has added value to the land that I gave her."

Museveni also commissioned Bukedea College of Health Science, another school owned by the Speaker that offers professional health training for paramedical students.

Speaker Among thanked the President for providing the financial support to enable the construction of the hospital.

In 2017, President Museveni laid a foundation stone for the construction of the hospital, having offered land for the same. The land initially belonged to Bukedea District Local Government and had remained undeveloped.

Since then, construction has been ongoing until January 2024 when the hospital started operations.

Bukedea Teaching Hospital has so far handled more than 2,000 patients.
