Museveni Appreciates Indians for 'Enormous Contribution' to Uganda's Economic Development

President Yoweri Museveni expressed his gratitude to the Indian community for their "enormous contribution to the economic development" of Uganda.

In a Thursday evening tweet, the president said he encouraged the community to "bring more investors".

India has consistently remained one of the top investors in Uganda with an estimated investment worth US$1bn in the last two decades. In 2020, India’s investments in Uganda hit USD$200 million, according to the finance ministry.

India and Uganda remain strong trade partners, with import and export value with India standing at US$959.11 million and $56.98 million respectively.

The Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development Matia Kasaija recently revealed that Uganda Airlines has plans to launch direct flights to India in order to enhance trade and tourism relations between Kampala and New Delhi.

President Museveni, who hosted the Indians for the 6th State House Diwali Celebrations on Wednesday, said they are "are working hard for the prosperity of the country."
