State Minister for Sports, Hon Peter Ogwang on Thursday launched the distribution of sports materials to all districts in the country. The launch took place at National Council of Sports headquarters in Lugogo.

Ogwang said the sport materials which included footballs and netballs is part of their efforts to develop sports and physical activities and enhance community mobilization in the country. All the 136 Districts, 31 Municipalities and 25 Divisions in 11 Cities have been catered for in this initial stock of equipment.

“Each District and Municipality will receive 30 pre-inflated Select Footballs and 15 Rubber Netballs while the City Divisions will receive 30 Footballs and 14 Netballs,” he said during the launch.

He added that the Sports Officers were purposefully chosen to receive the equipment since they are the technical field staff in respect to sports matters in the respective locality.

“I, therefore, urge all local governments to provide maximum support to the Sports Officers to enable them to execute their duties effectively by reaching out to all communities in their areas of jurisdiction,” Ogwang said.

He added that the provision of these sports materials marks the beginning of government deliberate effort to increase access and quality of sports services rendered to Ugandans irrespective of where they are located.

He further called upon the private sector and individuals of goodwill to join forces with Government to uplift sports in the country.

“Investment in sports can provide the best returns for those who are interested in venturing into sports. The future of Uganda Sport is bright, considering the vast natural talent endowment across all sports in the Community,” he said.
