Kagame Promotes RDF Officers involved in Normalizing Uganda-Rwanda Relations
Rwanda's President Paul Kagame has promoted senior Rwanda Defense Forces (RDF) officers that have been involved in efforts to ensure relations between Uganda and Rwanda return to normal.
In a message released by the RDF, President Kagame promoted the Chief of Military Intelligence Brig Vincent Nyakarundi to Major General while Brig Willy Rwagasana the Commander of the Republican Guard has also been elevated to Major General. Also promoted is Brig Gen Ruki Karusisi the commander of Special Operations Forces.
In a separate message, Colonel Ronald Rwivanga, the Spokesperson of the RDF, has also been promoted to the rank of Brigadier General.
Following talks between President Kagame and Uganda's Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations and Commander Land Forces Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the above mentioned officers have been instrumental in ensuring the realization of resolutions between the two principals on the Rwandan side.
Recently, Gen Nyakarundi led a Rwandan delegation to Uganda that held discussions with Gen Kainerugaba and other senior UPDF offers.
Days later, Uganda's CMI Chief Maj Gen James Birungi visited Rwanda where more follow up talks were held.
Relations between Uganda and Rwanda have continued to improve following Gen Kainerugaba's intervention when he reached out to the Rwandan leader.
Since his two visits to Rwanda where he held several discussions with President Kagame, the Rwandan leader has visited Uganda and his Ugandan counterpart - President Museveni was last month given a rousing welcome as he arrived in Rwanda to attend the Common Wealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).
Gen Kainerugaba has also hinted that he intends to return to Rwanda to visit president Kagame whom he fondly refers to as his uncle.
