Gen Kainerugaba Wants Those in Karamoja Iron Sheets Scandal to Lose Jobs

The Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has spoken out against the recent iron sheets scandal that has rocked the government of Uganda.

The scandal centers on the misappropriation of iron sheets that were meant for the people of Karamoja, a region in northeastern Uganda.

According to reports, the iron sheets were supposed to be distributed to the people of Karamoja as part of a government initiative to provide housing for those involved in acts of cattle rustling. Additionally, the government had also procured goats to lure the rustlers from the vice.

However, it was recently discovered that a number of government officials and other individuals had been diverting the iron sheets for their own personal gain.

This revelation has caused outrage among the people of Uganda, who have long been suffering from poverty and lack of adequate housing. Many have taken to social media to express their anger and frustration over the scandal, with some calling for those responsible to be held accountable.

In response to the scandal, Gen. Kainerugaba has said those involved should lose their jobs.

"All those involved in the Mabati saga should lose their jobs," Gen Kainerugaba tweeted Saturday morning after revealing in an initial tweet that his grandfather (Mzee Amos Kaguta) had told him that when an owl hoots, the Bachwezi are angry.

"My grand father used to tell me that if you hear an owl hooting at night it means the Bachwezi are angry. Last night the owl was hooting a lot," Gen Kainerugaba said before adding: "I think the owl was hooting because of the corruption in Uganda. The Bachwezi are very angry because of that," Gen Kainerugaba noted.

Some of the leaders implicated in the iron sheets scandal, included Jessica Alupo - Vice President, Anita Among Speaker of Parliament, Robinah Nabbanja Prime Minister, Rebecca Kadaga First Deputy Prime Minister/Minister for East African Affairs, Rukia Isanga Nakadama Second Deputy Prime Minister/Minister without Portfolio.

The list of over 30 MPs and Ministers also mentions Matia Kasaija Minister for Finance Planning and Economic Development and his junior Amos Lugoloobi, Judith Nabakooba Minister for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Kitutu Mary Goretti Minister for Karamoja Affairs among others.

On Friday, Gen Kainerugaba who is fresh from a trip to Agago and Kitgum where he interacted with the victims of Karimojong cattle rustlers said that Uganda's biggest problems are unemployment and corruption.

"Some people in NRM were telling us to ONLY speak about 'Sports and Entertainment'. Can you believe that? Is sports and entertainment the most pressing issue for our people? We rejected that position. We will always talk about our peoples' real conditions. No 1. is unemployment, adding that No.2 is Corruption!"

The Sandhurst trained General went ahead to say that the MK Movement which he leads in the most popular movement because of speaking the truth.

"Right now the MK Movement is the most powerful political movement in Uganda. The people love us because we are not scared of speaking the truth," Gen Kainerugaba tweeted Friday afternoon.

Meanwhile the General has appointed several leaders in various positions with eight individuals making up the Central Committee.

The members of the committee include the following;

1. Muhoozi Kainerugaba

2. Balaam Barugahara

3. Lillian Aber

4. Michael Nuwagira

5. Andrew Mwenda 

6. Michael Katungi 

7. David Kabanda

8. Michael Mawanda

Other members that the General has appointed include Peter Ogwang, Tamale Mirundi, Frank Tumwebaze and Shadrack Nzaire who are understood to be part of another MK Movement organ known as the General Popular Congress (GPC).

Gen Kainerugaba who has insisted that he will retire from the UPDF this year to content for the Presidency says his administration will deal with corruption and unemployment as a matter of urgency.
