Emulate Museveni’s Resilience, Dr Besigye Tells FDC Youth
The founding president of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Dr Kizza Besigye has praised President Yoweri Museveni's resilience and determination, revealing that he endured severe conditions to reach State House. According to Dr. Besigye, Museveni walked hundreds of miles on an empty stomach, braving forests, rain, and scorching sun during the 1981-85 bush war struggle.
It is important to note that Dr. Besigye has a unique perspective on Museveni's journey, having served as his personal doctor during the bush war that ultimately catapulted Museveni's regime to power.
This is not the first time Dr. Besigye has unintentionally commended Museveni; he has previously spoken about Museveni's enviable strategic thinking and vision.
Dr. Besigye made these remarks while expressing his disappointment with young opposition members who are unwilling to make sacrifices for change. He specifically criticized Makerere University students who complain to him about lacking transport to travel the approximately 3 kilometers to Katonga Road. He also mentioned that some individuals use ulcers caused by hunger as an excuse to avoid participating in their activities.
Dr. Besigye was addressing delegates who broke away from the mainstream FDC party based at Najjanankumbi. It remains unclear whether the Katonga group will form a new party ahead of the 2026 elections.
