Manchester United’s draw with Arsenal was a sobering lesson to both clubs in just how far they have to go to match Manchester City and Liverpool.

It was a game so mediocre that VAR was, for once, welcomed as a talking point - although as usual opinions differ on how well it was utilised. Arsenal’s goal from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was correctly allowed after a review showed the linesman had made the clear and obvious error the system was designed to eradicate.

Manchester United, however, were left questioning why a suspicious looking handball by Arsenal defender Sead Kolasinac wasn’t worth a second look. In the end there was no winner - which was just about what this game deserved.

The game also saw Manchester United make a worst start to a season in 30 years, as the team now lies 10th in the English Premier League table with only nine points in seven games.

Reactions

Christian Evans: Sheffield Wednesday were bottom of the Premier League at Christmas 99/00 with about seven points...picked up some form and would have stayed up if we had beaten arsenal but drew 3-3 when leading 3-1

BantamsHead: #bcafc Won just one of their first seven matches in 98/99 under Paul Jewell but ended the season in 2nd place gaining promotion to the Premier League.

Ricky Lee Everett: Stop with the Ole Out nonsense, United have proved that sacking managers and throwing money left right and centre gains you nothing. Time to stick with Ole and let him get the players he wants, so far he has got 3 and they've all been positive
